Author Talk with Kwame Alexander
Ms. Narse-i-pore, the Library Media Specialist, has been awarded a grant for an author talk with New York Times bestselling author and motivational speaker Kwame Alexander. Due to the popularity of this proposal, Dr. Nover has agreed to sponsor additional talks at AMD and the high school. The full grant of $600 will be funded, with flexibility to increase if collaboration between the two schools expands.

Seismograph for Earth Science Classes
Mr. Seechiano's Earth Science students will soon have access to a seismograph, which will help them study earthquakes and plate tectonics. We are funding 100% of the $658 requested for this essential learning tool.

Hudson River Sloop Clearwater Sailing Classroom
Ms. Nastasi's grant will bring two classes of high school students onto the Hudson River for a hands-on learning experience aboard the Clearwater Sloop. Students will study the history and ecology of the Hudson River Valley, with programs running in both the fall and spring. The full grant of $1,095 has been awarded.

Business Club Support
Ms. Pavic’s Business Club will receive $2,500—approximately 50% of their request—to help with fundraising, tax return preparation for the community, and participation in business competitions.

Arts Department Initiatives
Several arts projects at the high school will be funded next year, thanks to contributions from the Jacobson Murphy Family Fund:

$409 for a linocut press for Ms. Bouchell’s art class.

$500 for fabric for Ms. In-jay-nyary’s fashion class. Ossining Matters extends gratitude to the Jacobson Murphy Family for their support.

Canon EOS Rebel DSLR Cameras for Film Classes
Mr. Whitehead’s award-winning film classes will receive six Canon EOS Rebel DSLR cameras. With a grant of $4,870.37, his students will continue to produce outstanding projects, like the powerful Veteran-Student Writing Exchange documentary from 2022-23. We are excited to see what they create next!

In collaboration with the high school, AMD students will also have the opportunity to hear from bestselling author Kwame Alexander. This event, co-sponsored by Dr. Nover, ensures both middle and high school students benefit from this inspiring experience.

Sensory Table for Inclusive Recess
Brookside’s Inclusive Schools Committee, led by Ms. Boland, will receive $1,000 to purchase supplies for a sensory table. This interactive tool will be available for all students during recess, supporting inclusion and engagement for the entire school

Science Models for Energy
Mr. Mace and Ms. Rijos have secured full funding of $1,320 for their “Science Models for Energy” project. This grant will purchase 20 Newton’s Cradles and 20 Stirling Engines, providing 4th graders with hands-on tools to explore energy concepts. These models will be used by all 4th grade students in the coming years.

We are continuing to support Ms. Ringle’s beloved Story Walk Way at Park School with a partial contribution of $1,561. This funding will ensure its ongoing operation and the addition of several new stories to engage young readers.
